“We had a great heat race. Our second heat race, I messed up the start that put us in a bad situation and wasn’t able to get the win. That put us on the second row to start the feature. It was just a demolition derby. I tried to follow Ken Block as he was one of the quickest all week. I got hit from the left, I got hit from the right, and I got hit from behind, nailed in the can. I couldn’t see anything, it was just straight dust. All of a sudden, I came out of the dust and tried to steer straight but the steering was broken. It would have been fun if it wasn’t so devastating (smiles).”

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE HEAT RACE? “Dave Mirra got an amazing jump from the second row and put us four-wide. I’d never seen a guy from the second row do that. I thought I had a decent jump. He must have just had the perfect launch and when he put us four-wide, it caught us all off guard. He got into (Scott) Speed who hit me and I got into Bryce. It was just carnage.”

“We came into the weekend without practice or anything and went straight into qualifying and trying to learn the track. We felt like we’ve made some improvements with the Dodge Dart and obviously we have because Travis ran really well. In our heat race, Travis and I hit each other and it ripped the whole front right off. The guys worked really hard to get it put back together. We went to the LCQ, started dead last and I think we got up to fifth and was just trying to run a clean race and get up to the top two. Tanner (Foust) said his throttle stuck wide open and we all three just kind of piled up into the finish line berm and broke the car. We’ll be back for Vegas. It’s a little disappointing but the car is a lot better.”

IS THE FIRST TURN HERE REALLY NARROW? “At this Charlotte track, we’re wide open and then it goes straight to dirt with a slight right into a 90 left. Everybody kind of slides and then piles up. I think it’s something with how the track layout is. Everybody is trying to get to the first turn first and it’s been causing a wreck here and there. Hopefully they build the Vegas track a little better. I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”
