Statement: Transmission Shift Interlock

May 13, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -  FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 32,267 SUVs in the U.S. to address the potential for a certain wire-harness terminal to lose its electrical connection.

If this condition occurs, the vehicle’s shifter may become locked in “PARK” or “NEUTRAL” once the vehicle is brought to a stop. An investigation by FCA US traced the cause to supplied wiring harnesses, some of which may have been incorrectly crimped.

The Company is unaware of any potentially related injuries or accidents. This campaign is unrelated to any previous recall.

Affected are certain model-year 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokees. Also subject to recall are an estimated 2,095 vehicles in Canada; 538 in Mexico; and 2,472 outside the NAFTA region.

Affected customers will be notified when they may schedule service.

In the interim, customers are advised to use the parking brake when exiting their vehicles, as recommended in their owners’ manuals. Those with questions may call the FCA US Customer Care Center at 1-800-853-1403.
