April 28, 2012 , SALT LAKE CITY -  Bowers Leads Hart & Huntington Tandem with 10th-place Finish in Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY (April 28, 2012) – Team Dodge SX riders continue to prove their toughness as both Hart & Huntington Kawasaki’s advanced to Saturday night’s Main Event at the very technical AMA Supercross event at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.

Tyler Bowers (No. 74 Dodge/Sycuan Casino/Hart and Huntington/Bel-Ray Racing Kawasaki) led the Dodge duo, earning his third Main Event start en route to posting a season-best finish of 10th. It was only his third race for Hart & Huntington.

Bowers finished fourth in his Heat Race and carried the momentum into the Main Event. After breaking slow from the gate, Bowers rode inside the top 10 for the first 14 circuits of the 20-lap event. A slight wobble on Lap 15 dropped the Kentucky native one position with only four laps remaining. With sights set on his first top-10 of the season, the two-time reigning AMA Arenacross Series champion made a pass on Lap 18 and maintained his position to the checkered flag.

“It was a good night,” said Bowers. “I stayed off the ground and that helps. I’ve been practicing on my starts all week with Kyle Lewis. I got a good start in my Heat Race and got a fourth-place finish. I tried to do the same in the Main. When the gate dropped, I don’t know what I did wrong. I may have fed the bike too much or something. The gate dropped and everyone took off and I was rolling over (it) really slow. I had to play catch-up from there. I gained a few positions and had a good, solid ride to place 10th. I’m pretty pumped about it. I stayed off the ground and that gives me some confidence heading into next weekend at Vegas.”

Teammate Kyle Regal (No. 36 Dodge/Sycuan Casino/Hart and Huntington/Bel-Ray Racing Kawasaki) earned his seventh-consecutive Main Event appearance since joining Hart and Huntington Racing at Daytona. Regal combined a solid qualifying session with a comfortable Heat race to secure a spot into the final. Riding as high as seventh, Regal would suffer two miscues that would ruin his chance for his first podium finish.

While battling for position on Lap 4, Regal would wobble on the rhythm section, dropping him two positions to ninth. Riding top-10 lap times, Regal’s night would end one lap later when he made contact with Brett Metcalfe sending the two riders off track and well off the pace. He would retire in 19th position.

“The Heat Race tonight went pretty good,” said Regal. “I got a decent start around sixth or so. I passed a couple of guys, but rode pretty solid. I ended up fifth in the Heat Race.

“In the Main, I got a decent gate and was riding around sixth or seventh for the first three or four laps. I messed up in the rhythm (section) and lost a few spots. I was back up to speed when I got together with Metcalfe. We both ended up off the track near the rhythm section. It’s just
unfortunate. I was running inside the top-10 like I wanted, fighting for a top-five for a while when I got collected. It’s a drag. I just need to look ahead to Vegas and see what I can do there at the last race.”


The 2012 AMA Monster Energy Supercross Series heads to Las Vegas for the season finale next weekend at Sam Boyd Stadium.
