Use of these fuels offers the potential for significant gains in fuel economy and emissions. The EPIC electric minivan, based on the popular Dodge Caravan, is a full-function zero-emission vehicle. More than 200 EPIC (Electric Powered Interurban Commuter) minivans have been marketed in California and New York. The GEM, the battery-powered Neighborhood Electric Vehicle, is the bestselling, street-legal electric vehicle in the country, with more than 10,000 sold. Chrysler Group has sold more than 1 million alternate fueled vehicles, including the 3.3 liter Flex Fuel version of the popular minivans. These vehicles can run on gasoline or a combination of 85 percent ethanol and gasoline. Full-size vans running on compressed natural gas (CNG) are also available. Diesel-fueled vehicles offer the potential for significant gains in fuel economy in technology that is available today. Chrysler will market diesel versions of the popular Town & Country minivan and the PT Cruiser in the near future. Chrysler Group is also exploring the potential of so-called designer fuels, including Syntroleum.
