Approximately 400 attendees, including top executives from the auto industry’s global supply base, were present for the awards ceremony. The event, which recognizes Chrysler and its suppliers' shared vision for collaboration and innovation, is the first for the automaker since becoming a private concern in 2007."Our suppliers play a critical role in Chrysler’s ability to meet our customers’ demands for vehicles with outstanding quality and innovative technology," said Chrysler Executive Vice President - Procurement, John Campi. “We are proud to recognize their outstanding performance and continued contribution to our success with the Chrysler Supplier Pentastar Award."The recipients of the 2007 Chrysler Supplier Pentastar Awards were selected based in part upon the unanimous decision of senior members of the Chrysler Procurement , Supplier Quality and Supply organizations, and the supplier's performance as measured by Chrysler's External Balance Scorecard—a fact-based system that measures the critical value drivers of quality, technology, cost and delivery—factors the company uses to determine sourcing strategies.Winners of the 2007 Chrysler Supplier Pentastar Awards (by commodity) were:Body in White: MetalsaChassis: Corning, Inc.Electrical: SIRIUS Satellite RadioExterior: PPG Industries, Inc.General Goods Services: EMC CorporationInterior: Mayco International, LLCLogistics: Cassens Transport CompanyMopar: Howard Ternes Packaging, Inc.Powertrain: Arbomex SA de C VProduction Equipment Services: EXCO EngineeringAbout the Award and the DesignerThe Chrysler Supplier Pentastar award was created by Mark Pavlovski, a 2007 graduate of Detroit’s College for Creative Studies (CCS). Weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces and standing 16 inches tall, the trophy is constructed of automotive components such as rubber, glass, metal and wood. Since 2002, Chrysler (formerly DaimlerChrysler) has called upon CCS students to design a unique commemorative trophy. Pavlovski, a Detroit native, was awarded $3,000 for submitting this year’s winning design. Currently he resides in Boston, Mass., where he designs and builds furniture.
