FCA US Hosts Inaugural Automotive Safety Recall Best Practices Summit

  • 18 automakers exchange best practices, new ideas to better execute safety recall campaigns

May 26, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -  FCA US LLC hosted the "1st Annual Automotive Safety Recall Best Practices Summit" on May 24-25, providing an opportunity for 18 major global automakers, including FCA US, to discuss, learn about and share current approaches for improving vehicle safety recall execution.

More than 100 automotive professionals, representing all of the world’s major automakers, participated in the two-day industry summit at The Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport hotel in Romulus, Mich. Representatives from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Rodney E. Slater also were in attendance.

“This summit continues the momentum we as an industry are building together with NHTSA to address areas of customer safety and safety recall campaigns,” said Mike Dahl, Vice President and Head of Vehicle Safety and Regulatory Compliance, FCA – North America. “Coming together as automakers to improve our work in these areas is critically important, both for our industry and also for the millions of customers who trust us to put safety at the forefront of everything we do.”

FCA US organized the industry summit as part of the Company’s commitment to creating and embracing a proactive vehicle safety culture. Participating automakers had the opportunity to review findings of recently conducted research on customer attitudes toward automotive safety recalls.

“FCA US is committed to leading best practices in safety, including industry education and outreach,” Dahl said. “We are focused on working with NHTSA and the industry to create changes that will bring long-lasting improvements in vehicle safety.”

FCA US also engaged an independent third-party organization to assess how all automakers can improve processes for safety-related defect determinations and recall campaign processes. A brief summary of these findings,“Industry ‘Best Practices’ for the Management of Vehicle Safety,” was shared with attendees.
