Elastomer Characterization Laboratory

  • The laboratory is used to provide consistent, precise and quick development capability on the performance of the elastomeric components.  A critical characteristic of any vehicle elastomeric component is its ability to compress and return to form under load. Some examples of tested parts include; engine mounts, powertrain mounts, cab mounts, suspension bushings and grommets. Characterization data is used in virtual/physical correlation, design development, competitive benchmarking, and reliability assessment.

  • The Elastomer Characterization Laboratory currently has two test rigs (linear & rotary).  They are used to measure static and dynamic frequency response in elastomeric components, covering the 6 individual degrees of freedom.
