As a company, FCA US LLC is involved in numerous efforts to improve the world around us through financial giving, community initiatives and volunteer programs. In Detroit, FCA and its employees are committed to making sure the community is as strong as it can possibly be. These are some of our stories.

What we're thankful for in 2020
This year, FCA has been hard at work building the Company's future in the city of Detroit with its newest Mack assembly plant opening early in 2021. The Company is grateful to all of the employees, community members, organizations, volunteers and partners who have been with us every step of the way. From our extended family to yours, thank you.

New Monitoring Station Built to Measure Air Quality on Detroit’s East Side
We all need clean air, at home and at work, inside and outside of the places we live. But how do we truly know that the air we’re breathing is clean? That’s why we’ve installed a state-of-the-art, ambient air quality monitoring station at our new Mack Assembly Plant. 

FCA Foundation Salutes Veterans with Grants
In honor of Veterans Day, the FCA Foundation, the charitable arm of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles,  will award nearly $700,000 in grants to six non-profit organizations serving veterans, military and their families.

FCA Donates Candy and 50,000 Face Masks to Support Halloween in The D
The coronavirus pandemic could not stop us from contributing to the fun of Halloween for our neighbors on the east side of Detroit, while following safety precautions. For the City of Detroit’s annual Halloween event, FCA donated more than 40,000 pieces of prepackaged candy.  

Detroiters Prepare to Join New Mack Assembly Team
When we announced in February 2019 our plan to invest $2.5 billion in our Detroit facilities on the city’s east side, creating nearly 5,000 new jobs, we also made the unprecedented commitment to put Detroiters first, especially the neighbors who live around our plant.

Mack’s new plant manager Michael Brieda is driven to keep improving
Michael Brieda’s day typically starts around 3:30 a.m. with a 3-4 mile run.  It gives the newly appointed Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack plant manager an opportunity to start the day with a fresh perspective and a feeling of accomplishment before arriving at work around 5 a.m.

Expert Advice: Connecting with Urban Forestry Experts to Help Rebuild Detroit’s Tree Canopy
Have you ever driven a tree-lined street, where the leaves and branches come together over the road, creating a tunnel of color in the fall and a canopy of green in the summer? This idyllic scenery is known as an urban tree canopy; it’s composed of layers of tree branches, leaves and stems that provide coverage of the ground when viewed from above. 

FCA Foundation Bridges Digital Divide for Detroit Students
The FCA Foundation is supporting Connected Futures with a $500,000 grant to the Detroit Public Schools Foundation. The grant directs support to students at Southeastern High School, Carstens Academy of Aquatic Science at Remus, Hutchinson Elementary-Middle School and Nichols Elementary-Middle School — all of which are located on the city’s east side near FCA’s new assembly plant.

FCA Plans Event to Provide Food, Face Masks to 1,200 Detroit Families
Recognizing that food insecurity continues to plague the most vulnerable populations, we are partnering with the City of Detroit’s Department of Neighborhoods on August 1 to give 1,200 families food, face masks and household goods. The FCA Food and PPE Distribution Event will be held from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Samaritan Center, a community resource center for neighborhoods in the Conner Avenue and I-94 area of Detroit’s east side.

Building a Sustainable Future for Our Next 100 Years in Detroit
As we continue to build our new state-of-the-art assembly plant and to bring nearly 6,500 jobs to Michigan, including nearly 5,000 to Detroit, we know we have a great responsibility to minimize the environmental impact for this and future generations. 

FCA, City of Detroit Seek Artists to Paint One of the Largest Murals in the City’s History
The poet Robert Frost famously wrote, “Good fences make good neighbors.” Together with Detroit’s Office of Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship and City Walls Detroit’s murals program, we launched a heart-filled initiative on Valentine’s Day that takes Frost’s words to a new level with the announcement of a massive mural project on the city’s east side.

New Detroit plant construction unearths history
Construction of our new assembly plant in Detroit has been a journey of discovery.
For the past several months, construction crews have found parts of old house basements, street pavement, and massive old stamping plant foundations and steel beams. Since last spring, crews have removed more than 830,000 cubic feet of dirt and built a nearly 1.5-mile long, 10-foot high concrete sound wall (15 feet in some places) in addition to creating three water-retention ponds that will hold more than 500,000 cubic feet of water.

Ironworkers recently raised an evergreen tree to top off the steel framework of the paint shop being built as part of a $1.6 billion investment to construct a new assembly plant on Detroit’s eastside.

Employee Takes a Shot at Ending Hunger
Despite shattered basketball dreams, Marvin never gave up on wanting to help his family, friends and community.  Shortly after starting work in 2015 at FCA, he founded “Youth are Bigger Than Life,” a non-profit dedicated to serving Detroit’s underprivileged with life and educational services. 

Never Eat the Science
Seventh graders from Detroit Enterprise Academy are learning some valuable lessons thanks to a new STEM education outreach program. Made possible by a partnership of Cranbrook Institute of Science and the FCA Foundation, students engage in hands-on classroom projects and receive lifelong advice such as, “never eat the science.”

We are Thankful
Thanksgiving is a time of reflection and celebration. It’s a time to have fun with our families and friends, to eat too much, to watch parades and football and, for many, a time to help others in our communities. Most of all, it is a time to reflect on what we are all thankful for this year.

Vehicle Test Track at FCA’s New Assembly Plant in Detroit is Taking Shape
Located entirely under one roof, the 95,000-square-foot facility will validate that all vehicles rolling off the line are free of buzzes, squeaks and rattles before being shipped to our customers.

Mayor Mike Duggan: FCA’s impact on Detroit ‘will last generations’
FCA and the City of Detroit are working hand-in-hand to identify and prepare qualified city residents to apply for jobs at the company’s new assembly plant on Mack Avenue on the city’s east side, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan told a packed town hall audience at FCA’s Auburn Hills complex.

New assembly plant rises on auto industry historic terrain
When Antoine Laumet de la Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, aka “Cadillac”, arrived by canoe in 1701 on the shores of what is now Detroit, little did he know that his decision to establish a fort and trading post along a bottleneck of the Great Lakes would become the center of the world’s automobile industry and ultimately to the new FCA assembly plant rising on the city’s eastside.

FCA Community: Beautifying Vacant Properties Together With Detroit Community Leaders
Community flower gardens not only beautify vacant spaces, they also support the dwindling pollinator population (bees and butterflies) we all vitally need for food production. So when the president of Canfield Consortium in Detroit reached out asking for help preparing and planting a new community garden, employees from our Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) team were eager to get their hands dirty.

Lesson for the Day: Girls GET IT
For the 50 middle school girls attending this year’s GET IT Day or “Girls Exploring Together Information Technology” Day at FCA’s Auburn Hills campus, the event provided a hands-on experience with the technology that plays an important role in nearly every FCA vehicle, from design and manufacturing to their operation on the road.

FCA Foundation Helps Detroit Students, Staff Begin School Year with Clean Drinking Water Through Hydration Stations
More than 500 hydration stations have been installed in Detroit Public Schools Community District schools and serve as the long-term solution for clean drinking water.  The hydration stations were made possible by the business community, who collectively donated more than $2.9 million for the project, including a $100,000 grant from the FCA Foundation, the charitable foundation of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

FCA Foundation Invites Curious Minds of All Ages to Explore Michigan Science Center
“Smithsonian Museum Day is all about empowering and advancing the hopes and ambitions of those in our community, particularly school-aged children and those in underrepresented communities. Such days are made possible through generous supporters like the FCA Foundation,” Michigan Science Center President and CEO Christian Greer said. “At MiSci, our mission is to inspire curious minds of all ages, and Museum Day is an opportunity to do just that.”

Application Window Opens for Detroit Residents to Apply for Mack Facility Jobs
More than 10,000 Detroit residents who participated in the pre-application process have received an email inviting them to fill out an online application and take an assessment test for jobs at FCA's new Mack facility.

Motor Citizens Reclaim Detroit’s Beniteau Community 
"I think small decisions have large consequences," Greg Rose, director of environmental health and safety at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, said. "It’s (Beniteau Community Park) important to this community. I think keeping it cleaned up and available to the children is a big deal."

Motor Citizens Keep Detroit Waterways Beautiful by Land and Sea
Even with the threat of precipitation for the second straight year for FCA’s annual volunteer cleanup of Belle Isle in Detroit, FCA Design Engineer Brad Jackson and dozens of his colleagues were ready to invest some “sweat equity” for a good cause. The lifelong visitor of Belle Isle Park joined his colleagues to remove trash, plastic and debris from Belle Isle’s waterways and grounds as part of the “Keep Belle Isle Beautiful” anti-litter campaign.

Committing to Our Future Leaders in Advanced Manufacturing 
From lockers to conveyors, a team of nine recent graduates from Southeastern High School in Detroit are interning at our Jefferson North Assembly Plant, immersing themselves in all areas of manufacturing as we look to build the next generation workforce in the automotive industry. FCA Expands Its Detroit Footprint as the Only Automaker Assembling Vehicles in the City 
FCA is currently the only automaker to have an automotive assembly plant located entirely within the city limits of Detroit and the Company is increasing that commitment with a $2.5 billion investment – and adding nearly 5,000 new jobs – to enhance and expand its footprint in the city.

Building the Next-generation Workforce: Students Explore Detroit’s Only Auto Assembly Facility 
Last month, Jefferson North Assembly Plant (JNAP) opened its doors to 100 students from Detroit’s Southeastern High School who were ready to learn more about the people and processes involved in building the Jeep® Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. The three-part event, known as Manufacturing Day, included an engine demonstration; production simulation stations; and, of most interest, a tour of JNAP, the only auto assembly plant located completely within the city of Detroit.

The Lawn Academy 
Eric Miller’s job brought him to Detroit in 2012, but he brought more to the city than just his family. Launched in 2013, The Lawn Academy provides Detroit-area boys and girls, ages 11-19, a six-week college immersion program in partnership with Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD).

Detroit Refelections 
"A lot of people think they can beat mental illness on their own, so they suffer in silence or take their own lives," explains Jazmyne Kincaid, FCA US employee at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. "I hope to be a helping hand to someone struggling with a mental illness and share with them the resources around us that can help guide them toward health."

Beyond Hashtags Mentoring Program 
Carlton Honey, launch team member at Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, partnered up with an old friend to create BeyondHashtag#, a non-profit organization that helps boys in schools with behavior issues, specifically dealing with their emotions.
