TECHNOLOGY GLOSSARY: CHRYSLER, RAM TRUCK, JEEP® AND DODGE VEHICLES

Active transfer case and front-axle disconnect
These two independent technologies are not offered together by any other manufacturer. The system seamlessly transitions between RWD and AWD with no driver intervention by disconnecting the front wheels from the drivetrain in order to reduce friction and rotational inertia. The system provides a fuel economy improvement of .4 km/l combined, optimal traction, performance and safety.

Adaptive-cruise Control (ACC)
ACC automatically decreases the vehicle’s preset cruise-control speed when closing in on another vehicle in the same lane or when another vehicle pulls into the same lane. The system will accelerate to the preset speed when the vehicle in front speeds up or moves into another lane. ACC will maintain a specific distance between the vehicle and the one in front of it, allowing the use of cruise control in light traffic without having to continuously adjust settings.

Chill Zone®
By using the vehicle’s air-conditioning system, Chill Zone acts as a cooled-beverage storage bin that can hold up to four 500 ml bottles or cans.

Continuously Variable Transmission 2 (CVT2)
This second-generation CVT has been calibrated for pleasing engine response and precise ratio control. The optional AutoStick® feature allows for manual selection of six simulated stepped gears.

Courtesy puddle lamps
Courtesy Puddle Lamps provide additional ground lighting that makes entry and exit safe and easy. Mounted in side-view mirrors, these lamps work in conjunction with the dome light and the remote keyless entry system.

Electronically-controlled Coupling (ECC)
Featuring an on-demand electromagnetic coupling, ECC drives only front wheels until power to rear wheels is needed. All-wheel drive also is used on dry pavement between speeds of 40 and 105 kph in order to enhance handling during spirited driving. The system automatically and seamlessly provides added traction on snow, ice and other low-traction surfaces without having to be switched on and off.

Fuel-saver mode
Enables drivers of vehicles equipped with a 5.7-liter HEMI®-powered vehicle to view when the engine is in four-cylinder mode/ Multi-displacement System (MDS). The feature is included as part of the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC). Select vehicles also are equipped with an “Eco” Indicator light on the dashboard. The “Eco” Indicator feature has been expanded to include additional powertrain systems, helping customers save fuel by avoiding rapid starts, maintaining steady speeds and decelerating smoothly.

Hill-descent Control (HDC)
Allows a smooth and controlled hill descent on rough or slippery terrain without the driver needing to touch the brake pedal. This system applies the brakes to each wheel individually when needed to reduce forward motion while descending steep grades.

Hill-start Assist (HSA)
Assists the driver when starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill by maintaining the same level of brake pressure the driver applied for a short period of time after the foot has been removed from the brake pedal. The system will release the brake pedal in proportion to the amount of throttle applied. If the throttle is not applied within a short period of time after the foot has been removed from the brake pedal, HSA will release brake pressure.

Illuminated front cup holders
Makes it easier to find front cup holders while driving at night by illuminating them in blue-green to match center-stack lighting.

Multi-displacement System (MDS)
Seamlessly alternates between smooth high-fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed and V-8 mode when more power from the 5.7-liter HEMI® engine is requested. This optimizes fuel economy when V-8 power is not needed, without sacrificing vehicle performance.

MusicGate Power™
When the liftgate is open, speakers can swing out from the trim panel and face rearward for tailgate parties and picnics. The available nine-speaker Boston Acoustics premium audio system with subwoofer includes two articulating speakers packaged in the liftgate.

ParkView™ rear back-up camera
Provides a wide-angle view of the area immediately behind the vehicle, giving the driver greater peace of mind before backing up. Also aids in lining up a trailer with the vehicle’s towing hitch, when so equipped. The image is Automatically displayed on the navigation screen when the transmission is shifted into Reverse.

Parksense® rear-park assist system
Rear-park assist system assists at low speeds in reverse to detect stationary objects. Consists of visible (interior lights seen in rearview mirror) and audible warnings for the driver.

Keyless Entry/Keyless Go
The system simplifies the vehicle entry and start process by eliminating the need to get keys from a purse, briefcase or pocket. The vehicle will unlock the door automatically, as long as the vehicle key fob is within a specified range and the driver can start the vehicle with the simple touch of a button.

Dual-screen rear seat entertainment and Swivel Screen
Already featuring the industry’s most capable and sophisticated second- and third-row rear-seat entertainment system, the Chrysler Group enhances the feature with an exclusive swivel third-row screen to allow passengers facing to the rear of the vehicle, via Chrysler Group’s Swivel ’n Go™ seating system, to view the screen. Chrysler’s Vehicle Entertainment System includes dual DVD players and screens that deliver a variety of programming choices, with ports to connect games and media players with audio and/or video output capability, including iPods. The driver and front-seat passenger have the ability to access all video sources using Uconnect Media Center and each screen can play something different from a different source. The exclusive Chrysler Group third-row rear-seat swivel screen is available on the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan, while the Chrysler Group’s Vehicle Entertainment System is available on the Chrysler 300, Sebring, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Commander and Dodge Charger, Journey, Avenger Nitro and Ram 1500.

Removable LED flashlight
This quality, LED flashlight recharges itself automatically via a mount in the cargo area and snaps out of the bezel when necessary. It is dual-purpose, also functioning as a dome light.

Selec-Trac® II
A full-time, active on-demand system that anticipates and prevents wheel slip before it occurs. This premium system offers a “4WD Auto” mode that is ideal for full-time driving. When driving in 4WD Auto mode, the system uses vehicle sensors to adjust and redirect torque between front and rear axles based on real-time driving conditions, providing the vehicle with responsive traction performance. For added capability when traversing steep grades, rough terrain or extremely poor-traction surfaces, the transfer case includes a “4WD Low” mode. This second gear multiplies engine torque 2.72 times and locks the clutch pack for maximum traction.

Stain-repel seat fabric
Offers three key benefits: repelling stains, controlling odor and reducing static electricity. Dual-action technology repels and releases spills that would stain other auto fabrics. This technology also allows the upholstery surface to dry quickly. In addition, the seating fabric reduces static electricity generated when entering or exiting the vehicle.

Sky Slider™
Industry-exclusive, full-length open canvas roof. The Sky Slider roof may be moved to several positions, including full-forward, full-rear or partially open to any position in between with a convenient express one-touch switch. The roof is made of a reinforced acrylic cloth, similar to a convertible top, which is weather resistant and leak proof. The top panel nests into a weather strip seal in order to minimize wind noise. The roof utilizes anti-pinch software that prevents the roof from moving should it detect an object in its path.

Trailer-sway Control (TSC)
Reduces trailer sway and improves handling in adverse towing conditions caused by crosswinds, traffic and improper weight distribution on the trailer. The system monitors the vehicle’s movement relative to the driver’s intended path, and the vehicle yaw sensor recognizes sway. TSC applies brake pressure to one front wheel to counteract the yaw induced by the trailer and applies brake pressure to all four wheels to slow the vehicle. As the trailer sways to the other side of the vehicle, TSC will increase pressure to the opposite side of the vehicle. The system will continue to apply alternating brake pressure and reduce engine torque until the trailer is under control.

Uconnect® Media Center
The innovative Uconnect Media Center offers touch-screen and voice command for convenient control of multiple media sources and outputs. Owners can create a personalized in-vehicle media experience with iPod integration, auxiliary jack for MP3 player input, FLO TV, SIRIUS Satellite Radio and SIRIUS Backseat TV. The Media Center also includes a 30-gigabyte hard drive where music, photos and voice messages can be stored via a USB port interface. In addition to navigation software and mapping, the hard drive holds approximately 2,400 songs – more than 150 hours of music. Finally, for the driver who needs efficiency, a voice-memo recorder feature allows convenient reminders up to three minutes long.

Uconnect Phone
Uconnect Phone is an in-vehicle, voice-activated communication system that allows you to talk on your Bluetooth compatible phone with your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. The built-in phonebook sync feature automatically downloads as many as 1,000 phone book entries from supported phones, which can then be selected by simply saying their name. The hands-free option promotes safety, freedom, value and flexibility.

Uconnect Web
Uconnect Web provides high-speed data transfer and flexibility, combining Wi-Fi and 3G cellular connectivity for a new level of wireless technology. The system transforms the vehicle into a “hot spot” to deliver the Internet directly to the vehicle for instant access to Web sites, e-mail, personalized music, online gaming, photo albums and more. The Good Housekeeping Research Institute gave Uconnect Web a 2009 VIP (Very Innovative Product) Award.

Uconnect Navigation
